Aztecs overcome dirty play and dubious officiating to beat Northern Illinois, remain undefeated

That was painful.

Emotionally painful, for those of us who only watched, but scary painful when a chickenshit Northern Illinois linebacker jammed fingers into Rashaad Penny’s eyes while he was pinned beneath a defender.

It was a bizarre, dirty play that went unpenalized, yet the refs managed to give Mikah Holder a first-quarter ejection for blocking and flag the Aztecs for 125 yards on 10 penalties. With the 35,716 other souls at STADIUM I variously cheered, sulked and rage-tweeted.

The San Diego State football Aztecs are 5-0 for the first time since 1975. More coverage upcoming, after which let us never speak the cursed name of NIU again.
