Meet Malachi Flynn, SDSU’s newest splashy hoops commit

Remember Malachi Flynn? You probably used to know him as that evil jerkface who ruined your Sunday night a few months back. Last November, Flynn tormented San Diego State by absolutely balling out in the final of the Wooden Legacy Tournament, scoring 24 points to secure a Washington State win and the tournament MVP. Classic evil jerkface move tbh.

So, uh, it seems we may need to reconsider any snap opinions we formed that night. Today, Malachi Flynn is a gentleman, a scholar and an Aztec.

Following in the transfer footsteps of Xavier Thames, the sharpshooting guard committed to SDSU where he’ll have two seasons of eligibility remaining. With Devin Watson and Jeremy Hemsley both seniors, 2019-20 will almost certainly be the Malachi Flynn show on Montezuma Mesa.

Flynn averaged nearly 16 points and more than 4 assists per game for the Cougs last year. He was so good that, when he announced his decision to transfer, it provoked a WSU partisan writer to produce this fanboy take for the ages.

If you’re like me, most of your knowledge of Flynn comes from 40 frustrating minutes of nervous drinking and angry cursing on that extremely late night in November. Chances are, you did not tune in to Pac-12 Network to watch too many Wazzu games after that, and with good reason — after beating the Aztecs to start 6-0, the Cougars’ season basically fell into a garbage can.

So to give you an idea of what kind of player SDSU is getting, I did a little Twitter research and dug up several non-triggering highlights from Flynn’s sophomore season. Let’s take a look!

Here is Malachi Flynn pulling a game against Texas Southern out of the fire. Please do not ask why a game against Texas Southern was in the fire to begin with.

Here is Malachi Flynn sucking a Saint Mary’s player’s soul out of his body like some kind of sorcerer or witch doctor. The opponent’s soul is now imprisoned inside a snow globe, which Flynn keeps in his locker next to a bottle of Axe Body Spray.

Here is Malachi Flynn being an evil jerkface to SDSU. Dammit how did this highlight get in here?

Here is Malachi Flynn doing a cool thing against UCLA.

Here is Malachi Flynn showing off his fancy passing acumen against Arizona. Note: It’s probably best not to look at the score.

Here is Malachi Flynn beating his man off the dribble and attacking the rim late in a close game against Cal.

Here is Malachi Flynn winning that game with a nifty pass.

Here is Malachi Flynn taking it to the basket after two Cardinal players run into each other lol.

Here is Malachi Flynn in his final appearance for Wazzu, sending a Pac-12 Tournament contest to overtime.

In the final analysis, Malachi Flynn is not an evil jerkface, but rather and extremely talented basketball player who just made the long-term future of Aztecs basketball look a whole lot brighter.

Glad I could help clear that up.
