The return of the Q&A and blog bet with One Bronco Nation Under God

When I first started writing about the Aztecs in 2011, the Mountain West Conference blogosphere was a sad, dark place. One bright beacon in the wilderness was One Bronco Nation Under God, a group of pretty cool, funny dudes who probably all smell like criss-cut French fries in real life.

Heat-related opening week Mountain West roundup

What could be more San Diego than a blazing September afternoon at STADIUM with 46,132 sweaty friends! I ask you. Those thousands of hardy souls braved great expanses of sizzling asphalt for the SDSU football season opener on the hottest day of the year. Some other indeterminate number of fans watched on…line. Other than the Aztecs game, probably not many of us saw much if any other Mountain West action because why on earth would you do such a thing? Our conference is bad! But we need to keep tabs on these chumps so let’s take a cursory glance at scores from around the league.

The Mountain West must do whatever it takes to keep its champion from a bowl matchup with a losing team (UPDATED)

Craig Thompson is kind of an easy target for lazy, pot-shot-loving bloggers like me. As Mountain West commissioner, he’s given us lots of ammunition; from the sad TV deal to the evisceration of the conference via expansion (and back-filling with San Jose State) to the fact that two Mountain West teams faced each other in a bowl game streamed online last year.

All that said, he probably gets a bad rap overall. Thompson can only play the hand he’s been dealt and, for the last several years of his tenure, that hand has included two Garbage Pail Kids and a Starbucks gift card with $1.75 left on it.

However there is something brewing that, if it comes to pass, we should all rightfully roast him for.

Pre-Electoral Mountain West Roundup

This has been the most dispiriting election most of us have ever lived through, and the Mountain West conference is a perennial disappointment. Can’t wait to get the results of both over with!

OFFICIAL POWER RANKINGS: 2016-17 basketball road trip destinations

If I may divert your attention away from football and our tightly contested quest for another Mountain West division title, we do have a full season of bouncy hoops on the horizon. Many questions about this team remain unanswered.

How will the newcomers fit into coach Fisher’s rotation? Will Jeremy Hemsley make the proverbial jump from promising freshman to dominant sophomore? Could Zylan Cheatham lob an alley-oop so high that even he, himself could not slam it down?

But even above all those is: which road trips should fans be planning? Between Fresno, Albuquerque, Reno, Phoenix and Honolulu, there are a lot fun and exciting places to develop a crippling addiction to crystal meth with the locals. Not to mention the big city excitement of Chicago, Las Vegas and Logan, Utah.

Here are your potential Aztec basketball road trips, ranked worst to best:

Literal Mountain West Roundup

What follows is a caustic précis of football results from the inferior athletic conference the San Diego State Aztecs play in. Let’s see what in the Sam Hill those middling teams did this week:

Lily-livered Mountain West Roundup

Another week, another bunch of inconsequential yet marginally meaningful football results from the cowardly lions of the Little Conference That Couldn’t. Hit it:
