Game Recap: Aztecs check out early in Maui, get crushed by ISU

Thanksgiving is tomorrow and I need to get cooking, so I’m going to go ahead and give this Game Recap roughly the same effort as the San Diego State men’s basketball Aztecs put forth in their third and final game of the Maui Invitational.

First the good news: Despite getting stomped 87-57 by Iowa State this morning/afternoon, the Aztecs do not need to give back their impressive Tuesday win against Xavier. At least I think they don’t. Perhaps someone should consult the rule book just to be sure?

Game Recap: Aztecs hoops gets up off the mat, beats Georgia

press-release

Before I dive into the SDSU men’s basketball team’s win over THE ESS-EEE-CEE on Friday, I must offer an official mea culpa. It was fewer than two weeks ago that the Aztecs played a half of basketball in Tempe so heinous that I kind of had a nuclear meltdown in the game recap. I thankfully stopped short of calling this a lost season, but I sure didn’t imply that it wasn’t.

Since then, SDSU has handily beaten three really bad teams, which could easily be dismissed as irrelevant on account of those teams being really bad and stuff. But this — a gutsy 75-68 win over a possibly pretty respectable Georgia Bulldogs squad in the Wooden Legacy Tournament semifinals — was something else.

So ignore the idiot blogger boy. The Aztecs (5-1) might actually be good this year, friends.

Hooray!

Cold beer, new faces and hella baskets: an exhibition basketball Tweetcap

The San Diego State men’s basketball team kicked off the Brian Dutcher era on Thursday night with a 98-79 win over UC San Diego. Yes, yes, I know: “Kicked off” is a stupid and embarrassing expression to use when writing about hoops, but you know what? I’m not changing it.

IT’S THE PRESEASON FOR BLOGGERS TOO. I’m here to learn from my mistakes and get better, folks.

Tonight’s game wasn’t on TV (not even the TV they have on computers these days) and I didn’t attend the contest because LOL I’m not paying $15 parking for a stupid exhibition game. So I didn’t see it. Lemonverbena had other plans, as well, and VocalMinoritySDSU lives in the Yukon Territory or somesuch. Fortunately, Attempted Chem was on the scene at State to drink beer, eat greasy Mexican food that will definitely not give him the runs and provide this handy Tweetcap for the first non-super secret fake game of the Dutcher era!

Attendance Truth: Last good crowd of the year edition

Fresnocover
More tarps needed soon.

With the Chargers gone and Mission Valley up for grabs, it seems everybody is suddenly *keenly* interested in San Diego State’s football attendance. Trouble is, that number has always been kind of tough to pin down. The official count is a tickets-distributed figure, and that often doesn’t jibe with the butts in seats. THE HATERZ on the other hand have it on good authority that literally zero people have ever attended an Aztecs football game. We’re here to find the truth, people.

The return of the Q&A and blog bet with One Bronco Nation Under God

When I first started writing about the Aztecs in 2011, the Mountain West Conference blogosphere was a sad, dark place. One bright beacon in the wilderness was One Bronco Nation Under God, a group of pretty cool, funny dudes who probably all smell like criss-cut French fries in real life.
