Valentine Izundu and Rooks tangled up in 2016. Great picture or greatest picture? (via USA Today)

At the start of the day Friday, the SDSU men’s basketball team’s projected starting five looked something like this:

G: Devin Watson
G: Trey Kell
F: Max Hoetzel
F: Malik Pope
F: Jeremy Hemsley in a trenchcoat, standing on Jordan Schakel’s shoulders

As such, the questions swirling around the 2017-18 season included such doozies as:

  • Can Jalen McDaniels gain 55 pounds in a summer?
  • Can Nolan Narain get bitten by a radioactive spider?
  • Is it bad that this team has no established big men?
  • No, really. Is that bad?

At the end of the day Friday, things seem … a little less dire. You have Kameron Rooks to thank for that.

The best wins of the Rocky Long Era; a vitally important elimination tournament (ROUND 2)

boise

We are on the the Final Four Five in our elimination tournament of best wins of the Rocky Long era. Countless dozens of votes (OK, four dozen) flooded in during the first round, giving us a higher turnout than most A.S. elections. We ended up with three blowouts and a tie! Check out the results here.

As a result of the deadlock, we will now have a three-way cage match between Scared Money Don’t Make No Money and the 2015 and 2016 MWC Championship Games.

In the other semifinal, you most now decide what’s cooler: beating Boise on The Blue or beating Cal at the Q?

Game preview: Aztecs vs. California

What: California Golden Bears at San Diego State Aztecs
When: Saturday, September 10 at 7:30 PM
TV: CBS Sports Network
Line: Aztecs -7

So we’re playing Cal again. Awesome. Is this a rivalry?

Not exactly, but the schools do have a history. After Saturday’s game the Aztecs will have played Cal in six of the past 13 years. The Goldie Bears own a 4-3 lead in the series with the home team winning every game. Cal waxed SDSU last year at Berkeley 35-7 behind future first overall pick Jared Goff’s 300-plus and 3 TDs.

Q&A: Talking Aztecs-Cal and more with California Golden Blogs

As Aztecs fans, I think we’re all feeling pretty confident about Saturday’s game against Cal (hyperventilates into paper bag). But how are our frenemies at the University of California at Berkeley feeling about this? For answers we turned to Nick Kranz and Berkelium97 from California Golden Blogs to get their take on the game, SDSU’s chances of Pac-12 membership (SPOILER: NOT GOOD) and who has better burritos.

Official: Men’s basketball to play intercollegiate contests against specified opponents at set times

In what is sure to be a huge relief for all those worried there would not be an Aztecs men’s basketball season, SDSU has released its schedule for 2016-17. There is much to digest. Let us chew on this together.

Poll: How OUTRAGED are we that Cal’s punter talked some super mild shit?

In case you haven’t heard, San Diego State has a rather large foot-ball game on Saturday against an opponent from a Power Five conference. Even worse, this opponent is also representing the flagship school of the University of California system. As such our State School “DO YOU THINK YOU’RE BETTER THAN ME???” rabbit ears are at full attention this week.

Let us now scour the internets for something to get mad about, shall we?

The staff predictions you never asked for and won’t remember by Saturday at 5:30

If you are excited for the SDSU football season, you’ve certainly scoured the prognostications of respected college football writers and important publications. But if you still find yourself wondering what four arguably qualified bloggers from the internet think will happen this year, well good madam or sir, you came to the right place.

The tireless, hardworking K30 staff submitted projections of the Aztecs’ final win-loss record, bowl result and our rationales for same. They are … surprising. GET FUCKIN LIT for Kabeer Thirty’s 2016 predictions:

Kindly eat shit, (Opponent)

Aztecs football season starts this week, and it’s time to start working ourselves up! It’s easier when you hate your opponent, right? We here at Kabeer Thirty love nothing more than to give a quick (figurative) kick to the junk followed by a tearful sprint in the opposite direction, but there’s a lot of hatred in this world. How about we try a different approach this season? Let’s systematically kill them with kindness!

A benevolent breakdown of SDSU’s 2016 foes:
