AZTECS ALUMNI REPORT: Terrible news for Neeks, Reed gets traded, Maal gets paid

Can you believe it? August just started and football is already crushing our damn souls. Yesterday, we got some news out of Baltimore Ravens camp about rookie Nico Siragusa and it was not good. It was quite awful, actually!

That is absolutely devastating for Siragusa, who signed a 4-year, $3 million deal in May. Of course, because the NFL is basically the devil, that money is not guaranteed. Fortunately, he did bank a $620,000 signing bonus, so not all is lost. But man. First training camp and this happens?

Get well soon, Nico. We’ll all be pulling for you.

The best wins of the Rocky Long Era; a vitally important elimination tournament (ROUND 2)

boise

We are on the the Final Four Five in our elimination tournament of best wins of the Rocky Long era. As a result of the deadlock, we will now have a three-way cage match between Scared Money Don’t Make No Money and the 2015 and 2016 MWC Championship Games.

In the other semifinal, you most now decide what’s cooler: beating Boise on The Blue or beating Cal at the Q?

Now, I may be mistaken, but I believe about 17 of those 21 championships occurred when SDSU was in a league with Patrick Henry High School and the Camp Pendleton Marines, but who cares? Banners are banners so let’s bask in some glory.

Here are the 21 most awesome things about the Aztecs clinching their 21st title.

Hawai’i Five Five-Oh

San Diego State’s tear through the Mountain West Conference over the past two seasons has been well-documented. The winning streak is up to 17. The point differential in five games this season is plus-154.

And Saturday evening, before a homecoming crowd of more than 41,000, the Aztecs might have achieved their most impressive and thorough torching of the MWC dumpster. Facing Hawai’i, a team widely considered the least bad of the absolutely putrid West Division, SDSU won 55-0 and clinched at least a tie for the division title.

Fifty-five to nothing.
