K30 staff predictions for the 2018 Aztecs football season

You’ve argued about the media day poll. You’ve studied all of Bill Connelly’s meticulous team previews, including the ones for schools you weren’t even aware even had D-I programs. You’ve even sifted past the survivalist and low rider periodicals at CVS to find copies of those obsolete preseason magazines that go to press far too early to be relevant.

But have you been edified by the predictions of four random guys you sort of know from SDSU Twitter? You have not.

Game Recap: Boise State blows out Aztecs, teaches us important lesson that big dreams are for suckers

I really want nothing more than to go to bed and sleep for about 17 hours, so I’ll do my best to keep this brief. The San Diego State football team carried a No. 19 ranking, Heisman hype and a Fiesta Bowl resume into Saturday night’s conference showdown with the objectively evil Boise State Broncos.

The Aztecs lost it all, quickly and convincingly.

Adding up success for the 2017 Aztecs

This is the time of year where I typically crank out an easy post attempting to define success for the upcoming football season.

But it’s not as easy as it used to be.

As the bar gets keeps getting raised higher for the San Diego State football program, this exercise gets tougher. Back in 2011 when I started blogging, it was essentially, “Please stay decent and don’t go back to losing 70-7 to New Mexico.” Last August, in the wake of SDSU’s first outright conference title since 1986, it was a little more complicated.

How high? Defining success for the 2016 Aztecs

The first time SDSU made the Poinsettia Bowl, it played Navy. The Aztecs being in a bowl – any bowl – was such a novelty back in 2010 that nearly 50,000 people crammed into a stadium half-filled with San Diego River storm surge.

The shine of the lower-tier bowl game wore off fast. Aztecs fans were nearly outnumbered on their home turf by stone-sober BYU supporters in the 2012 Poinsettia. SDSU faithful who attended each of the Potato Bowl, Hawai’i Bowl and New Orleans Bowl appearances could fit into a Subaru Forester. Aztecs supporters aren’t satisfied with making just any bowl anymore.
