Where do we go from here?

That’s the wrong way.

So your favorite college football team just shot itself in the junk with a t-shirt cannon.

San Diego State’s 23-17 loss to a very good Utah State team on Saturday sure as hell wasn’t ideal. I DID NOT GLEAN A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF ENJOYMENT FROM IT, TRUTH BE TOLD. But the game did clarify a few things about where our beloved squad stands and what the season looks like moving forward.

Love (Lost) And Basketball

There are essentially two generations of San Diego State sports fans. There are those who remember watching Marshall Faulk play, and those who came after.

(OK I guess there is a third group who remembers cheering on the San Diego Normal School Wampus Cats, but they’re also pushing 100 and hopefully doing something better than reading this blog.)

My point is, if you’re part of the post-Faulk era, like I am, odds are you fell in love with the Aztecs the same way I did: the men’s basketball team.

The dream endures

It sucks to lose.

It sucks to lose and blow a chance at an undefeated season.

It sucks to lose when the community appears to be finally getting excited about a team at a crucial point in the program’s history.

It sucks to lose to a rival after your team spent all week chirping about how this game was personal and clearly more important than any other opponent.

It really sucks when a universally-beloved super fan passes away and the last time he saw the scoreboard it showed his team on the short end of a 31-14 drubbing.

And it sucks we were denied the #PotatoTears we so long for.

But here we are. This week sucked. But the rest of the year is far from lost.
